Origin Story

Welcome to HummingByrd House, where we believe in the transformative power of story! 

We are a husband-and-wife team located in Edmonton, Alberta and HummingByrd House came to life in early 2025. Our intention is to bring inspiration and empowerment to our readers! 

Books can be entertaining – for sure!  But we also believe they can help bridge gaps and foster understanding. These are exactly the kind of stories and authors we are looking to get behind – those that deliver Courageous & Thoughtful Stories!

We want to enhance families’ lives, through the sharing of stories, from the hearts of our authors.

Why our children’s stories?

I’d like to share one of my core memories with you, that I lovingly recall as sacred time.

When my girls were young, we would have reading time before lights out. One of them would choose the story and then we’d find our comfortable positions, usually one daughter tucked under each of my arms, and we’d settle in to the story. Whether we were snuggled under blankets, or not, there was a sense of cosiness that was very comforting.

I cherish the time I spent reading with my two daughters as they grew up. We were connected through the story and the adventure the author took us on. We felt emotions together, we asked questions and wondered what the next chapters would bring…we were on a shared journey – it was our sacred time.

Our hope is that HummingByrd stories might foster your own sacred time with your children.

Future Project:  HummingByrd House Little Libraries

As part of our commitment to foster a love for books and promote literacy, we are dreaming up our future project HummingByrd House Little Libraries.  This project is not just about providing access to books; it’s about creating little community spaces where families can come together, give and take stories, and foster sacred reading time with their children.
