Sofia Bekar

Sofia Bekar was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. She was raised to value education and her Greek heritage. Sofia grew up speaking English while also learning both French and Greek. 

 

Throughout her life, art has been a core value. Ever since her childhood, she has been exploring her passion and interest in visual arts. With her father also being an artist himself, Sofia was encouraged and given the freedom to express herself creatively from a young age. She has fond memories of spending days rummaging through her dad’s art supplies, writing stories, painting, and drawing. 

 

Sofia obtained a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts in 2022. She now lives on Treaty 6 Territory in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and is working as a French Immersion teacher. Art remains a through line in her life, natural landscapes and human connection being her biggest sources of inspiration. She explores a variety of mediums, but her favourites are watercolour and oil painting. Taking classes in her free time, Sofia continues to work on developing her own skills as an artist as well as inspire her students’ creativity.
