Daddy & Me - My First Combine Ride!

Daddy & Me - My First Combine Ride is a story from a lived experience. I remember the exact moment I decided to write this story. My sister and I were sitting in the farm truck watching our daughters and husbands on the combines. My husband is a city boy from Calgary, and this was a “first” for both him and our daughter. It struck me how special this moment was. My sister and I started talking about this moment… for them as Father and Daughter…for the unique experience it was that not a lot of people get to experience anymore...for the beginning of an extended family yearly tradition…for how truly Prairie-Canadian this moment was. I told my sister that I wanted to memorialize with a poem that could, maybe, be turned into a children’s picture book. I was feeling grateful that this was my life but also silly about the idea of attempting to be an author. My sister replied, “If there is anything I’ve learned is that even if you have the smallest calling to do something, you should do it.” I made my decision right there, I was going to go for it! It was just too good not to share this sweet adventure with all of you!
